IRC Channel

Post by ToxicH4wk on Wed Jan 04, 2012 7:58 am

Hey guys have you had any thoughts on an active IRC channel?
I know when I was playing competitive CS and when I was casting having that type of forum was great for organizing things, especially scrims and stuff.

Just a thought.
Plus it would allow some people access to chat all the time even at work via their pc, web page or iPhone.

Hey guys,
is there any further word on this possibility?
Im at work atm and bored so talking with others from the clan would be cool...

FYI This is the way to register a channel and get a Quakenet bot on it.

In order to request Q, you need to fulfill the following requirements:

1. You need to be authed with Q.

See this link about how to create a Q account and auth to it.

2. You need to be opped on the channel.

The channel name cannot be longer than 30 chars (including the # sign).
No one else needs to be opped at this point, giving channel operator status to other users is NOT recommended:

You may lose the channel due to a takeover.
Another channel operator may be able to request Q before you.
Do NOT have more than 5 ops!

QuakeNet staff will NOT recover the channel or change flags for you!

3. You need at least 3 other unique users on the channel.

These other users just have to be on the channel; they do not need to be authed with Q, voiced or opped on the channel.

4. You need to maintain the channel with the above requirements until the request is successful.

Try to request Q once in a while (for example every 15 minutes).
It will take at least a few hours to get Q.
You can NOT see how much time is left.
You do not have to ‘start over’ when you get disconnected or when the user count drops below 4. Once you meet the above requirements again, the calculation continues.

To request Q you type: /msg R REQUESTBOT #channel

You replace '#channel' with the actual channel name you want to request Q for.

R will give you a reply explaining what the result is (you may also get a reply from Q). If you get Q, congratulations, otherwise read the message R sends you informing you what you have done wrong. Do not complain to #help if you cannot get Q.

Hi Guys,
I was speaking with Egyptian Ninja earlier today and he said to go ahead with getting the IRC channel running.
I am currently sitting in #AuV2 on irc.quakenet.org
In order to make this a proper channel I need at least 4 people in the channel so I can register it.
Now I have created 4 other "bots" that are idling the channel to make this easier for me to register, but if we could get as many AuV2 people in there it would be better.

If you need any help getting setup on IRC let me know, its pretty easy and the best place to start is http://www.mirc.com/

Cheers...

Hi Guys I have created a weblink that can open an IRC connection in your web browser and join you to the AuV2 channel.
Just open the link below and put in a nick name then click join.

Hey guys FYI I have registered the channel.
For frequent users of the channel I recommend creating a Quakenet account.

You can do this by following the steps below, and then authenticating with the server.
For the relevant people let me know soi can setup the Admins.

Registering with Quakenet.

Saying 'Hello' to Q

This will create a Q account with the name of the nick you are using at the moment. You do this by using the following command:

/msg Q HELLO youremail@address youremail@address

If the account creation is successful a link where you can obtain your password will be sent to the email address you supplied, you will be required to read and reenter a series of characters before you are given your password. If account creation failed then Q will inform you of the reason, usually the problem is either the account already exists or your nickname has special characters in, in both cases change your nickname to a more suitable one.

Once you have this password you can then use the AUTH command:

/msg Q@CServe.quakenet.org AUTH username password

Where username is identical to the nick you used when you said HELLO.

You can check you are authed using the WHOAMI command:

/msg Q whoami

If you see a message back from Q that includes the line:

-Q(TheQBot@CServe.quakenet.org)- -Information for user John (using account john)

...then you know you have said HELLO and AUTH'd correctly.

Change your Q password

When you say HELLO to Q, you will be assigned a default password. We strongly suggest that you change it. Change your password by using the NEWPASS command:

/msg Q@CServe.quakenet.org NEWPASS oldpassword newpassword newpassword (for example, /msg Q@CServe.quakenet.org NEWPASS john notjohn notjohn).

Q will acknowledge a successful password change by displaying:
-Q(TheQBot@CServe.quakenet.org)- OK, password changed.

Note that Q will warn you if the robustness of your password is considered low. Read more about it at How to choose a secure password.

You are now ready to use our services.
